WELL STREET PIZZA... TIMEOUT
Tucked away in south Hackney, this pizzeria-come-underground bar serves up classic sourdough pizzas from their very own Neapolitan wood-fired oven. Options range from simple margheritas to the ‘Collina’, a pizza topped with Tuscan sausage, pepperoni, 'nduja, salami, tomato and fior di latte mozzarella.
If a slice of something isn’t taking your fancy, there’s more than just pizza up for grabs. Pasta also features on the menu alongside a bunch of fresh salads. There's also a decent-looking selection of craft beers up for grabs, too.
Three nights a week Well Street Pizza also transforms their underground space into a basement bar. Might be good for dancing off all those calories you've just wolfed down?
'WELL STREET PIZZA IS A SLICE ABOVE...'
Well Street Pizza is like a cross between a ‘50s American diner and a rustic ski lodge, which might sound like an unlikely combination, but it works.
The spacious 40-cover ground floor of the independent pizza restaurant in Homerton incorporates a mixture of stripped back reclaimed wooden tables, orange leather banquet seating and brick walls, along with shiny white and green ceramic tiled walls.
Despite the warmth of its wink to rusticism, there’s a Spartan feeling, maybe down to the neon lights, which give a feel of bygone Happy Days times.
A hand-made wood-fire oven which shipped over from Italy stands in the massive open plan kitchen as the piece de resistance.
